The number of facilities where firearms are handled — whether service weapons, personal firearms, sporting arms or collectibles — continues to grow. Before any handling procedure, it is essential to ensure the weapon is unloaded — and it is precisely at that moment that the CFR68 safety module, also known as a cold zone, becomes indispensable. In the event of an accidental discharge during handling, the projectile is captured inside the module, preventing wall penetration, ricochets and far more serious accidents.

Where Is a Cold Zone Needed?

Firearms are not only handled at shooting ranges. They are also handled in:

• Armouries and changing rooms
• Ante-rooms adjacent to shooting ranges
• Maintenance workshops
• Firearms intervention units
• Any space where a firearm is loaded or unloaded

Best practice requires a CFR68 safety module to be available and operational in all of these environments.

Modular System: Multiple Installation Options

The CFR68 is a fully modular system that adapts to any space and operational requirement:

• On standard fixed pyramidal feet (525 mm height): free-standing installation with no need for reinforced flooring or additional ballistic protection for floor or wall.
• On a desk or table: by removing the detachable feet.
• Wall-mounted: using the wall bracket, interchangeable with the foot base.
• Mobile: by adding wheels, it becomes a fully portable cold zone.
• The feet can be bolted to the floor for permanent installations.

Construction and Materials

• Exterior structure: 5 mm mild (deformable) ballistic steel plate, manufactured on advanced metal processing lines for maximum stability and durability.
• Interior lining: 40 mm Regupol anti-ricochet material. Any accidental discharge is absorbed by the Regupol, stopped by the steel, and guaranteed not to rebound towards the user under any circumstances.
• Finish: high-quality paint with antistatic properties. Standard colour RAL 7035 Light Grey. Other colours available on request.

• Total height with feet included: ~105 cm (module + 525 mm structure)

Recommended Combination: CFR68 + CFR30

Use of the CFR68 module together with the CFR30 bullet trap tube is strongly recommended. After handling the firearm inside the CFR68 cold zone, the dry firing step is performed by inserting the muzzle into the CFR30, confirming the weapon is fully unloaded. Should it not be, the CFR30 safely captures the projectile. Together they form the most complete solution available for safe firearm handling.

Development and Certification

The CFR68 was developed in close collaboration with experts and regular operators of shooting ranges and ballistic facilities. It has been tested by the German ballistic laboratory LZPD in Duisburg and complies with the anti-ricochet standards VPAM ARG 2012 and VPAM 2006.

Safety modules or cold zones are not designed to stop projectiles on a regular basis. They are not miniature shooting ranges. This product is designed so that, in the event of improper firearm handling resulting in an accidental discharge, the projectile is captured inside the cold zone without further consequences.
