9mm Ballistic Ball "The Last Resort" – PROTECTILE BBA24

The PROTECTILE BBA24 Ballistic Ball, manufactured in Austria, is the last resort before the use of live fire, with no need to carry a separate non-lethal, less-lethal or reduced-lethality weapon. In under 1 second, the BBA24 converts the officer's service pistol and its live ammunition into a device designed to be non-lethal.

Available with its standard ballistic ball holster and with the automatic ballistic ball holster for even faster deployment.

Years of research, experimentation and studies of ballistic effects on the human body have shaped the Ballistic Ball. Its design has involved the input of doctors, ballistics experts, law enforcement officers and special forces. Up to 16 patents confirm that the BBA24 is a revolution for the law enforcement world. The product is supported by a thorough medical study conducted by a prestigious university and the corresponding ballistic certification.

How It Works

The BBA24 is carried in a holster on the officer's belt, ready for immediate use. It is designed to be drawn quickly with one hand and placed on the muzzle of the pistol in seconds, without the need to take eyes off the threat.

• Once fitted, when the weapon is fired, the projectile is trapped inside the ballistic ball, becoming a single body.
• The BBA24 reduces bullet speed to ¼ of its original velocity (from ~340 m/s to ~65 m/s), drastically reducing penetrating energy.
• The result is an impact causing intense pain with minimal internal injury compared to a conventional bullet.
• After the shot, the pistol immediately returns to being a lethal weapon.
• If the situation is resolved without firing, the officer can easily remove the BBA24 from the muzzle and return it to its holster for future use.

Impact Energy: What Are 100 Joules?

100 Joules is equivalent to the energy a professional boxer generates with a solid straight punch to an opponent. The average trauma recorded in tests is 31 mm in ballistic clay at 27°C, covered by a short-sleeve cotton t-shirt at a distance of 5 metres. Trauma levels vary depending on the firing distance and the amount of clothing worn by the subject at the point of impact.

Force Options: Operational Context

Most police officers carry only a rubber or wooden baton, a defence spray, occasionally an electric defence device, and their service firearm. The BBA24 fills the critical gap between conventional defence tools and lethal force: the impact knocks the subject down, causes intense pain at the point of impact and will likely require hospital attention, but does not produce a bullet entry wound.

Legal and Public Perception Implications

In the eyes of the Justice system and the general public, the BBA24 is recognised as the last resource used by the officer before firing lethal ammunition. This technology represents the final option before resorting to lethal force, giving the officer one last attempt to resolve an intervention without loss of human life.
